Terms of Use

Effective date: [EFFECTIVE DATE: to be confirmed]

This page describes what Chess Mind does today. Items shown in a highlighted box, like [CONTACT EMAIL: to be confirmed], are details the Chess Mind team still has to confirm; until they are filled in, nothing should be read into them.

Using Chess Mind

These terms are between you and [LEGAL ENTITY NAME: to be confirmed], which runs Chess Mind. By creating an account or using Chess Mind you agree to them and acknowledge our Privacy Policy.

Who can use it

Chess Mind is for children, teenagers and adults. The account holder must be an adult ([MINIMUM AGE OF THE ACCOUNT HOLDER: to be confirmed]), who creates the profiles on the account, is responsible for what happens on them, and keeps the sign-in details private.

What Chess Mind offers

  • Chess School: guided sessions with Ollie the owl. The first 3 sessions are free with an account; the rest need Chess School access or Premium.
  • Practice: puzzles, games against the computer, a daily challenge, and online games against other players.
  • A parent area for screen-time limits, progress and purchases.

Features can change or be added. We aim to keep Chess Mind available, but we cannot promise it will never be interrupted.

Buying Chess School and Premium

  • Chess School is a single payment for access to all Chess School sessions. [WORDING OF "LIFETIME" ACCESS AND WHAT HAPPENS IF CHESS SCHOOL IS EVER DISCONTINUED: to be confirmed]
  • Premium is a single payment for 1 year of Premium features from the day it is bought.
  • Neither is a subscription, and neither renews by itself.
  • The price and currency are shown on the checkout page before you pay. Payment is taken by Stripe; Chess Mind never sees card numbers.
  • Refunds: [REFUND POLICY: to be confirmed]

Playing fairly and safely

Please play fairly and treat other players with respect. Do not try to break, overload or reach into Chess Mind's systems, use another person's account, or use Chess Mind for anything unlawful. There is no chat between players: online games only offer fixed friendly phrases and emoji. A tournament's name is typed by the person who creates it and can be seen by other signed-in players, so please keep it friendly.

[PROPOSED TERM, NOT YET DECIDED: Chess Mind may limit or close an account that is used to harm Chess Mind or other people.]

Ollie, the AI coach

Ollie's answers are written by an AI service and are meant to help with learning chess. They can be wrong, and they are not professional advice. Parents and guardians should supervise how a child uses Ollie, as with any online tool.
